Are you interested in volunteering at Karuna Lane Sanctuary?

We believe compassionate action heals all, and that we are all one. Everyone’s compassionate action looks different. For some, it is mucking the barn or helping us create this awesome website, or creating art to sell for the sanctuary, or even just telling someone we exist and why! For some people, donating is their compassionate action. To all the ways in which people choose to support the sanctuary, we are incredibly appreciative.

FREQUENTLY ASK QUESTIONS

Dress to be a mess! Although mucking stalls and hugging a donkey doesn’t HAVE to be a messy affair, it’s best to assume that you’ll leave here a little dirtier than you arrived. With that being said, leave your favourite shirt or jeans at home and leave your open-toed shoes there, too. Wear comfy clothes that are weather appropriate (layers!) and ones you won’t cry about getting a little mud on. BOOTS! We cannot emphasize boots enough. It won’t always be muddy, but poop is a guarantee! You don’t want that between your toes!

Sunscreen or a hat /sunglasses is also key – it gets blazing hot in the main paddock and there isn’t much by way of shade.

Other things to consider would be leaving fancy jewels at home and considering a hair elastic for long tresses as animals sometimes enjoy offering a complimentary hair trim by way of a nibble!

ABSOLUTELY– and we can’t thank you enough for asking! Our only request is that you check out our approved snack list below and always double-check before feeding any of the animals as many are on special diets.

Yummy:

Lettuce
Carrots
Strawberries
Blueberries
Apples
Sweet potato
Canned pumpkin purée
Dried fruit

Not Yummy:

Animal-based foods (containing dairy, honey, meat, fish, eggs)
Onions
Human sweets (cupcakes, pies, donuts)
Garlic

We would love if you brought a friend! Please let us know how many of you will be coming – we try to keep groups of visitors fairly small! If we know how many of you are coming, we can plan accordingly with volunteers! Be sure to send your friend the link to what to wear 😊

If you were considering bringing an animal companion, like your dog, we, unfortunately, will have to ask that they wait in the car (weather permitting) or stay at home. Our animal residents are pretty good about meeting new animals, but not all animals react well to meeting our animal residents here. So, with everyone’s safety in mind, we practice better safe than sorry. Thank you for understanding!

I don’t know much about animals

That’s totally ok! COME LEARN ABOUT ANIMALS! FROM THE ANIMALS! They truly are their own best advocates!

Karuna Lane is a not-for-profit sanctuary, meaning we are TRULY grateful for donations!

Donations help us to create the best life we can for the animals in our care! From feed and hay, to vet bills, fencing, and creating a space of solace in general – it all happens because of donations.

So, although we may be the ones caring for them daily, their enjoyment in life is a community effort overall.
